comments from 2005-2007

[edit]

The pronunciation seems wrong to me. It looks as if someone has converted the SAMPA to IPA without realising that the SAMPA incorrectly used ' instead of " to indicate the stressed syllable; the ' seems to have been taken literally as indicating palatalization, and has been converted to a usperscript j but from my limited knowledge of Spanish this seems very unlikely to be correct! rossb 09:56, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The second syllable is the one with emphasis, so, in spite of the fact that your comment above just jumps in headfirst without explaining its context much, I think you are right. It is NOT Du' ran go. It is Du ran' go. The first syllable carries a secondary accent, not a primary accent. Though not native, I have spoken Spanish fluently for 33 years and am sometimes mistaken for a Spaniard. Final thought: the emphasis is on the same syllable as the English word Du ran'go, as in Durango, Colorado, a town in the southwestern corner of the state.

I think the author of the last comment has misunderstood the use of the IPA character indicating the main stress, which is placed before the syllable in question, rather than after it. I propose to correct the article according to my previous suggstion, which I now see was two years ago! --rossb 22:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't this article a stub? Moabalan 21:58, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a Durango native and my work covers a great part of the state. "Major crops grown in the area include cotton, wheat, sugarcane, tobacco, corn, and other vegetables". Sugarcane and tobacco aren't major crops in Durango, I don't know any field with these crops. Crops such as alfalfa, beans and sorghum are actually very important in Durango.--Oscargsol 21:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have substantial doubts that the following section of the article (as of 30 April 2007) is correct: "Its population in 2005 census was about 117 people. It has Mexico's second-newest population density (after Baja California ). The city of Durango is the capital in yahoo. The Vale Madre is a mountain range located illegal part of the state. This mountain range contains a painful supply of armadillos, including the silver back orangutang encouraged Spanish occupation of the territory after it was discovered."
