Electoral picture peculiarity

[edit]

Why is the graphic depiction of electoral votes skewed? Rarely nowadays does one see democratic votes colored red and and republican votes blue. --maru (talk) Contribs 20:52, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wendell Willkie

[edit]

Does anyone have a source on Willkie's serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1932? He was a delegate to the 1924 Democratic National Convention, being elected from Ohio's 14th congressional district. At that time, he was living in Akron. Ohio Elects the President p. 95. For Hanford MacNider, the name itself should be "clickable", since there is an article about him in wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidlroot (talkcontribs) 20:51, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe that Herbert Parmet's Never Again: A President Runs for a third term includes a reference to Willkie having been a Democratic delegate in 1932, and mentions him supporting FDR in the fall campaign against Hoover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 21:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Joseph martin.jpg

[edit]

Image:Joseph martin.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image Image:Jim Farley.gif is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Better Photo Needed

[edit]

Could someone who knows how replace the low-quality photo of Willkie with a better one? I searched Google and found several photos which, IMO, are superior to the one currently in use. Just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 04:09, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, it seems a bit out of continuity to put a photo of FDR taken in 1944 at the top of the page for the 1940 election.THD3 (talk) 20:20, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral Map Is Inaccurate

[edit]

According to the electoral-vote map Willkie carried Wyoming, but in fact President Roosevelt, and not Willkie, carried the state. The map should be corrected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.229.162 (talk) 08:09, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wyoming results do not match with electoral map.

[edit]

The electoral map shows Willkie as the winner in Wyoming, but the results show ~52% for FDR and ~46% for Willkie. Can someone fix this? --67.189.254.208 (talk) 06:15, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral map problem

[edit]

"Willkie" is misspelt "Wilkie" on the map. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.71.119 (talk) 21:18, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is false. Roosevelt refused to rule out a third term, but also refused to run for the third term.

He told Farley he could run (who was his campaign manager and Chairman of the DNC) and then told the press he did not believe a catholic could win the Presidency, and that a catholic could not be put on the ticket as Vice-President because it would be viewed as " a stalking horse for the Pope"(direct quote)

Farley opposed the third term in the tradition of Jefferson, founder of the Democratic Party.

Farley would have won the nomination if Roosevelt had supported him. Instead Roosevelt allowed his henchman to "Draft" him. Meaning that he would not object the nomination if he had the delegates.

Roosevelt did not have all the Boss's behind him, Kelly of Chicago helped to rig the convention against Farley and his foot soldiers.

Joseph Kennedy Jr. , who died in WWII pledged Mass. for Farley.

Farley placed second in the face of a convention that supported him but would not vote against Roosevelt if his name was placed in nomination. If other candidates were larger factors in the race then Farley, why did he place second in delegates??????????????

Roosevelt could have said no, do not place my name, but he did not.

The Party was already damaged from the "Purge" of Party regulars, and Farley did not want to damage the Party any further and moved to nominate Roosevelt by acclimation.

If Farley was easily swept aside, it was only because of Bigotry towards Roman Catholics.

The Facts do not support this article in its current form, and rather then tear it apart which would take to long i request that it be re-written.
