The Jacksons

[edit]

There should be a separate article for "The Jacksons" because the Jackson 5 and "the Jacksons" are two different groups-not just a name change. Jermaine wasn't part of the Jacksons and Randy joined the group, vice versa with the Jackson 5. Isaacsorry (talk) 20:33, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jermaine did join them in 1983 after his contract with Motown expired. 2601:48:4401:2E50:C5D4:DE36:EC52:5437 (talk) 01:03, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No there shouldn't. Guns n Roses changed guitarists quite a few times, but there's not like 10 different articles for each variation on the band. Nirvana didn't stop being Nirvana when they got a new drummer. One article is fine.

Band members

[edit]

The band members who weren't a part of the family (ex. Reynaud Jones) should probably be added to the band members section, at least in my opinion Mighty Midas (talk) 20:04, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes they should because I saw the Jacksons live this year and Taryll and TJ were performing alongside Marlon Jackie and Tito. I’m not real familiar with that Jones person. 2601:481:8600:5260:B06F:E5D4:130E:C38C (talk) 07:16, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gladys Knight discovering them

[edit]

I just saw a YouTube video of the Johnny Carson show and one of the brothers said it was Diana Ross that discovered them at an event in Gary Indiana and said she wanted to take them to Motown. So that counts out Gladys Knights involvement. 107.77.236.139 (talk) 19:02, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"The group were among the first African American performers to attain a crossover following."

[edit]

What exactly does this mean? Can this be made more specific? I assume it means across races in the US, but even this isn't quite specified. But are they among the first for a specific sort of music (pop, but maybe not well-defined comparing historically), or is 'among' here doing a lot of work? Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Eartha Kitt, Nat King Cole, Chuck Berry, Little Richie, et al had very large followings across the racial divide ages beforehand - we can arguably even go back to Scott Joplin (if less so as a performer).

If this can't be made more specific, should this vague and potentially misleading sentence be removed? Harsimaja (talk) 20:31, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's a self-evidently ludicrous statement for one thing, and I highly doubt anyone could find a decent source to justify it. I say get rid of it. 2600:8801:710D:EA00:D57C:4116:6EEB:F99B (talk) 20:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. - FlightTime (open channel) 20:03, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS6lw2DbcVI&t=70s I edited the page to indicate Jermaine Jackson stated during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech that Gladys Knight was the first to reach out to the Jackson 5 to get them to Motown. Comprendo (talk) 18:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Who added Andrew jackson as one of the members of jackson 5?
