This seems to be more of a divide between the fanfic writers and the canon freaks, which aren't always divided on strict gender lines ^_^

I just stumbled on this page and found it quite difficult to understand -- it seems to be written for the sake of people already in the subculture. For instance, I don't really see what connection, if any, there is between the sentences in the second paragraph. It reads like an argument is being made, but there's so much jargon and assumed understanding, that I was unable to follow it -- are fangirls distinct from fanboys for reasons other than gender? What does male misogyny have to do with it?

Also, that paragraph seems to deal entirely with anime, and uses anime terms quite liberally (and assumes the reader knows what they mean), but the rest of the article doesn't seem to relate specifically to anime.

Also, after reading this, I still don't understand the role of "Big Name Fans".

Agreed. This needs to be written for a mainstream audience, not slash/anime/gamer nerds. And even if it were -- is this really encyclopedic? I mean, really. Neurophyre 02:38, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I took a crack at rewriting the article to make it less "insider"-ish and more accessible to people who are trying to learn about the subculture. I think it still needs work from someone more expert than me. --Misterwindupbird 02:08, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Ask for article protection

We need to close the "edit" option on this page, there are too many flamers vandalizing it and putting sarcastic and pseudo-humoristic comments. Purple Rose 07:48, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Otaku, Japanophile, or Fan (aficionado)?

[edit]

I think this article is too weak to stand on its own. I think it would be better suited to being a subsection of either Otaku, Japanophile, or Fan (aficionado). Thoughts? --nihon 05:49, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been merged with Fan (aficionado) in order to make one more robust article instead of two weak ones. --17:48, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
