I've made some revisions to the article; hopefully they're OK. I know of no source that says Gwynedd was a participant in the battle, so I removed that; please restore it if there's a source. As far as I know, it was just Powys, but I don't think even that is quite certain. Everyking 02:33, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I am deleting this uncited one paragraph section as it purely relates to Oswald and says nothing in connection with the battle which is the subject of this article. However there may be information that could, with due citation, be given in his wiki biography article so I copy this below:

Oswald is a major character in the earlier entries of 'The Bernicia Chronicles' series of historical novels, by Matthew Harffy, in which he is depicted as the lord of the protagonist Beobrand.

Question about the inclusion of Cadwaladr of Gwynedd.

[edit]

Cadwaladr was not yet king, despite, as his succession had been usurped by Cadafael, who later allied with the Mercians in 655. Thus it's unlikely that he donated reinforcements to Penda from the Kingdom of Gwynedd. The article does give a source but doesn't cite a specific page, so it's questionable.
