Barnstar

[edit]

Here is the Photographer's Barnstar for uploading these excellent images of Gary, Indiana. Although some of them don't fit into encyclopedia articles very well, those pictures portray life in the ghettos exceptionally well -- they were just so realistic. Please accept my offer. Thanks. -- Stevey7788 07:04, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Comment: There is a reason that I gave you the barnstar. When used correctly, you can show that some African Americans don't live in the homes that many other Americans take for granted and that we could donate something to charity to help them, but DO NOT use it for white supermacist purposes. And I said realistic, because I realize the photos were realistic. However, I said that "some of them don't fit into encyclopedia articles very well" - because they don't. They degrade a city's pride and heritage. Besides, where are the better sides of Gary? I would like to see them. The pictures of the vacant buildings are not common and are somewhat good, but I would want some pictures of great improvements in Gary. — Stevey7788 (talk) 02:00, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Chicago Spire Site Plans/Example Floor plan

[edit]

Hey. I saw you posted to the Chicago Spire talk page that you have site plans & an example floor plan? Where did you get them from? Are they fair use? (no copyrights)? Or do you have permission to use them from the copyright holder? Either way, they would be a great addition to the article! Let me know. I can put in the copyright tags if you need help with that. If they are copyrighted we would need permission from the copyright holder. Thanks! Chupper 05:01, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great images. But in order to get the copyright information put in correctly I need some questions answered:
1. Did Santiago Calatrava allow this work to be used for any purpose?
or
2. Did he allow this work to be used on Wikipedia in the Chicago Spire article only? (this is OK too)
Let me know on my talk page. Thanks! Chupper 19:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Aqua Chicago zoom.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aqua Chicago zoom.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Did you know this?

[edit]

I use Popups, the thing that gives you a peek at the first few lines of an article when you bring the mouse pointer over a wikilink, maybe you do too. I noticed that you had added a couple of categories to AARP, and when out of curiousity I moused over your username I was surprised to see this File:Pistol Browning SFS.jpg come up in the popup. Then I was puzzled when I visited your user page directly and did *not* see it. Then I edited your userboxes. So anyway... if it's by accident, you should keep it; if it's on purpose then I learned something new today. Good thing there's no zero tolerance policy here! Fair use rationale for Image:Badnarik_card.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Badnarik_card.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 08:12, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Badnarik for congress 2006.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of David Gerken

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article David Gerken, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Fails WP:BIO

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Mother's Little Helpers

Hello Kalmia, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on {{{5}}}, Mother's Little Helpers, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Mythic Dawn Agent (note: page has no mainspace links, and {{{7}}} edits). This has been done because the page is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "{{hangon}}" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:Mythic Dawn Agent. Problems with upload of File:Étienne de La Boétie.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Étienne de La Boétie.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you can't find a suitable license tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:05, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject C-SPAN?

[edit]

Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -

I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.

If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?

The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):

  • Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
  • Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
  • Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
  • Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
  • What else?

I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...

...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.

Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.

Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.

The article 375 East Wacker Drive has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced(links are to talk forum not a RS and to websites unrelated to this topic) article about a proposed unnamed building project from 5 years ago that still hasn't started. WP:TOOSOON

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ...William 19:49, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
