The scholar section

[edit]

I propose getting rid of this section. With all due respect, the list show many people whose contribution is not clear at all. So, I think this should include only REALLY notable people. --Ragib 00:02, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Should we rename this list?

[edit]

I don't know what is supposed to be the scope of this list. Is it meant to be a list of all Bangladeshis who ever lived? Definitely not. And if so, shouldn't it be renamed as "List of notable Bangladeshis"? Arman Aziz 03:33, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An alphabetic list

[edit]

If anyone is interested in an alphabetic list of all Bangladeshi people biography articles, this list may be useful. Arman (Talk) 08:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:41, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All people born in area of Bangladesh are not Bangladeshis

[edit]

I think that not all people born in the region of Bangladesh can be called Bangladeshis. Bangladeshi denotes a nationality, and therefore people who are citizens of Bangladesh can only be called Bangladeshis. The following group of people can't be called Bangladeshis.

  • People who were born in the present region of Bangladesh died before 15th August 1947 can't be called Bangladeshis. They were Indians. For example Surya Sen.
  • People who were born before 15th August 1947 in present region of Bangladesh and died before 25th March 1971 can't be called Bangladeshis. If they had migrated to India after the Partition of India, they are Indians without any doubt. For example Jibanananda Das. If they did not migrate to India they were Pakistanis. For example Dhirendranath Dutta.
  • People who were born between 15th August 1947 and 25th March 1971 in the present region of Bangladesh, and migrated to India and became legal citizens are Indians. They can't be called Bangladeshis.

Ancient and mediaval people who were born in the present region of Bangladesh can't be Bangladeshis. Therefore Atisha Dipankar or Sandhyakar Nandi were not Bangladeshis. BengaliHindu (talk) 14:05, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A very bad idea. By this logic Indians should include only people who were born after the region came to be known as India. Sadly, Atish Dipankar will not even be an Indian. We shall need to start a "List of Palapraja" (people of Pala) to include him. Rather anyone born in the land before or after any time period can safely be called Bangladeshi, no matter what political views some people may have. M.A. Jalil, Commander Sector 8 - A Valid entry? I suggest to remove all the red link entries from the article.

Useless

[edit]

In the current state this article looks like a useless pile of names, incomplete, incoherent and unsure of purpose. Any advice on how to turn this into something useful? Aditya(talkcontribs) 10:57, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
