higher education

[edit]

"Enrollment for each school is as follows. 90% of students move on to higher education.[citation needed]"

I think that less than 90% move on to higher education (assuming that means college, internship, etc.) According to about.com it is true, though I know the enrollment numbers on about.com are outdated. http://experts.about.com/e/g/gr/Grand_Ledge,_Michigan.htm

Unfortunately, I think citation of About.com is circular, as it generally copies from Wikipedia. Please see the small print at bottom. -Michael Motta —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.170.33 (talk) 00:36, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion of Grand Blanc as an "historical" [sic] city is rife with both grammatical errors as well as what seems to me to be an NPOV violation (but I am relatively new here). I am not from Grand Blanc so I am not prepared to edit this, however. -- AppleFan84

Actually the City is called Grand Ledge and I don't know about the grammer part. However, I am sure that every city is historic, so this must be a historic city. Although it may be redundant to say so.

[edit]

I didn't think the section was terrible, personally, so I did a quick edit to were I thought it was suitable for grammar as well as NPOV.

All I was getting at when I flagged it was that it sounded a lot more like a travel advertisement for the town, not a neutrally worded encyclopedia entry. --AppleFan84

Hmmm...yeah, I see your point. But I figured that if someone took the time to write it up, why not leave it in. It's not like they were saying "this place rocks the whole planet, ,everyone should come", they just wrote it from the point of view that people from grand ledge take pride in their town, and even though I'm not from there, I notice this pride when I am in town. There are more articles on wikipedia that support this "touristy" POV, albeit not to the same extent. Search for "Omer, michigan" for a small example.

But, I agree with your statement and I, like yourself, am fairly new to Wikipedia, and would more than welcome a more experienced editor to make a call beyond mine that it is acceptable for Wikipedia.

Who put the bomp in the bomp shu-bomp shu-bomp? Who put the Dip in the dip da-dip da-dip? Who put the bomp in the bomp shu-bomp shu-bomp? Who put the ram in the ram-a-lama ding-dong? Please discuss

Holy POV, Batman. This article looks like a 10th grader's expository writing term paper, prior to final proofreading.

And mentioning Mr. Kaufman, but no Harvey Benstein?

My favorite part of the article is this one: "...Walmart constructed a storefront on the East side of the city, attracting many residents who don't care about China's human rights issues or about supporting union workers; there are many such residents in Grand Ledge."

Walmarnt isn't even in Grand Ledge, it's in Delta Township, tought it is in the Grand Ledge School district. Maybe East of Grand Ledge but not "on" the East side of the city.

Who put the bit in about the marching band? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anniebruce (talkcontribs) 04:27, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It should be mentioned that "Grand Ledge" is a postal district. It includes the township of Delta, which is otherwise separate. I don't know what citations would bear that out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.36.227.211 (talk) 03:24, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Major problems

[edit]

This article was shot through with major POV and relevance issues. It seemed to be a low-grade edit war between residents who wanted to promote the town and residents (mostly apparently teenagers) who don't like living there. Most of the anonymous edits are junk, of course. If you want a good laugh, scroll through the chronological versions of this article on its history tab.

I have removed large chunks of the article for relevance and POV issues.

I think sections focussed on the town's history and on the Ledges, which are geologically significant, would be useful additions to the article. Any material added to the article should be sourced to something more concrete than the residents' feelings about the town.Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia: POV will help explain where this article went wrong. --JChap 06:01, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Festival categories

[edit]

Unless I am missing something I think the festival related categories (Cultural festivals | Festivals in the United States | Festivals in Michigan | Goth festivals) are not relevant; I am about to remove them... --Geekers (talk) 18:39, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Grand Legend?

[edit]

I propose deleting this section. It contains information that is not relevant to this article. If someone wants to give Adam Marsh his own page, go ahead, but it doesn't belong here. Also, it contains too many POV issues. 98.217.198.149 (talk) 22:11, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After deleting this section, someone has put up a new version that contains even more POV issues than the original. I am deleting it again, and will continue to do so. Jflu (talk) 21:23, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

School Enrollment

[edit]

I am deleting the school enrollment figures since they are both un-cited and outdated. I would argue that they should not be added back into the article since they are something that can potentially change on a daily basis. Jflu (talk) 22:23, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will rebut the argument that you may present because any data is subject to change on a rolling basis. If the logic that you present is followed, then every statistical model should be discarded because the data that any individual model may be based upon "can potentially change on a daily basis." I agree, however, that any figures should be cited, but what is the standard for a cite to be valid? Further, what must the source be, how accurate must it be, and how should one be able to check that accuracy? Additionally, I argue that any representations on this site are to provide readers with an idea of the demographic and character of the town and need not be pinpoint accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Toomuchtalk (talkcontribs) 23:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Band

[edit]

We need a band section. They've been there forever and it's time they get some long over due respect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.243.192.218 (talk) 00:05, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You mean Tonto & The Renegades? They were brilliant. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenton_Records) --99.51.9.223 (talk) 11:56, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I love the Ledge. at times it's a little boring and average... and that's the best part. I think it's therapeutic for the soul, my grandma says Grand Ledge is good for ya. And it is, but it's hard to appreciate it if you don't leave once in a while. How do you "know the ledge"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by B.A. Gilbert (talkcontribs) 15:49, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

School distribution

[edit]

the school section doesn’t mention the intermediate school (the district did a rearrangement of the grades in 2020 and there is 4 K-4s, 1 5-6, 1 7-8, and 1 9-12 buildings. 76.20.150.224 (talk) 00:03, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
