Copyediting comments

@HAL333: Not sure whether you're planning to take this article to FAC, but I'll leave content questions as I go. Ovinus (talk) 02:07, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • "The university has since taken measures to improve its image." I mean... I think this is obvious. Recommend removal
  • "Ole Miss is closely associated with writer William Faulkner" be specific; Faulkner was their postmaster? (Also, is that connection important enough to be mentioned)
  • I feel like the intro could use a little more about the university's expansion. We jump from 1844 to 1962 in a sentence! :P
  • "Its medical center performed the first human lung transplant and animal-to-human heart transplant." Might be a bit too random to include.
  • University endowment? Current enrollment? Maybe libraries, or a full list of departments (if there aren't too many)?

History

[edit]
  • "state legislature investigated him" for... what?
  • "the Mississippi Legislature introduced bills" how many?
  • is "Ole Miss" sufficiently formal to be used in wikivoice? I've removed a couple instances but feel free to replace if you disagree. It sounds a bit too endearing to be neutral
  • "was one of 131 colleges and universities that participated" is the # relevant
  • "was ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court" Was this a per curiam decision, does it have an article? I'd link it
  • "displayed in the university library" which library?
  • I honestly feel like the riots and their aftermath are given too much weight. What about other expansions of the university? New centers of learning, new long-serving presidents...

I'll keep going in a few days; gotta move some boxes.... Ovinus (talk) 02:51, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about this HAL; some pretty important real life stuff has caught up to me and I probably can't complete the copy edit in a timely manner. I will cross out my signature on the GOCE page. Ovinus (talk) 21:57, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lead paragraph

[edit]

Why do you not mention the regional campuses (main campus is Oxford, but has multiple regional campuses) near the top of the page? Why do not list/link the “medical center” which is the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) at the top of the page? Just makes no sense to lead with such a lackluster paragraph which does not describe all the major highlights of the university at/near the top of the page as Wikipedia seems to do with other universities. 24.117.224.194 (talk) 00:03, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Football

[edit]

Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin has recruited 21 new football players for the 2024 football season. This includes 5-star DL Kam Franklin. 173.235.112.26 (talk) 17:54, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update Facts

[edit]

Citation number 3 is absolutely wrong. Needs to be updated. Ole Miss is the largest university in the State of Mississippi. 2600:1700:8070:C320:89CD:B53C:5E16:D1F4 (talk) 05:00, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update Facts 2.0

[edit]

Check the Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning if you need a better reference. They are the governing body for all State public institutions of higher learning. 2600:1700:8070:C320:89CD:B53C:5E16:D1F4 (talk) 05:03, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
