Article topic

[edit]

This topic might be better entitled "Pseudo Terminal". The alternate consolses on BSD and Linux (obtained by Alt-F1, Alt-F2 etc. on Linux) are "Virtual Consoles". However, the terminals which correspond to sessions within terminal emulators (xterm, for example) and which are used by some network connections including SSH sessions are actually more likely to be referred to as "pseudo terminals" or (more commonly) ptys. See for example http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/nframe.html --62.245.38.73 18:16, 26 February 2005 (UTC)

I split virtual console from here, and there already seems to be an article on pseudo terminals. This article is now purely about the standardized term. --TuukkaH 10:45, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

[edit]

I think the {computer, virtual, pseudo} terminals need disambiguating with a DAB page, best located here (Virtual terminal). Widefox; talk 12:38, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The part about payment processing terminals really deserved its own article, so I split it off to Virtual terminal (payment processing).
