Complete Formula 1 statistics

[edit]

I reverted the career statistics format to the Wikipedia standard chart for all Formula 1 drivers. Please see Wikipedia articles for Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart among others. The information you added is useful though and can be added to the text section recounting Surtees' Formula 1 career. If you would like to change the current format, you could post a message on the Wikiproject Formula One page.Orsoni 09:14, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd support addition of this information - not so relevant for current drivers, but very relevant for the 50s, 60s and 70s where really small independent teams were much more common. I see Pyrope has rasied this at the old discussion to this effect at WP:F1, so suggest we carry on there. 4u1e 10:38, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the 50s and 60s were different times. My concern is that a myriad of facts in the results column would obscure the main focus of the chart which is to summarize the driver's results. In my opinion, the differing chassis and engine combinations can be addressed and fleshed out in the main body of the article. I also think it's important to keep a standard results chart for all Formula 1 drivers so as to make things easier on the reader linking from article to article.Orsoni 12:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot see how my table was a problem. The "standard" chart was created by neophytes with no long-term view. I had spent quite a bit of time making sure that I wasn't overloading the table with information, and I think that the resultant chart was clear, concise, and most importantly, correct. I hav posted message on the Formula One wikiprojet page and was using John Surtees as an example of how the format could be better. You have now removed that, thanks. Pyrope 13:27, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for that. No slight was intended. I was only trying to maintain the current standard used in the other driver's articles and wasn't aware you were using this article as an example. You can revert to your edit by using the history section.Orsoni 13:39, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, I didn't mean to jump down your throat. I do however give significant thought when I make large-scale changes to articles and I expect others to do the same. Crediting Surtees with driving for Lola in 1962 is simply wrong, Reg Parnell bought chassis from Lola and ran them under his Bowmaker-Yeoman Racing sponsorship. Lola was credited with Constructors' Chamionship points, but they emphastically were not Big John's "Team". Pyrope 13:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

john surtees accident at mosport in can am

[edit]

two young men from the detroit area were watching the practice allong side of me. when surtees left the road we knew it might be bad. we ran down thru the underpass, and hollered at the safety crew, where was surtees. they said to stay away because the car could blow up. we ran to the car and john was pinned under the cowl. i lifted the rear , one of the guys from michigan lifted the front, and the other crawled in and released the belts and killed the power switch. i tried to find out how john was at watkins glen, but the pit crew didnot understand me. respectfully; bob merritt, [personal information redacted] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.240.166.214 (talk) 23:34, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Surtees was married three times. He was married to his second wife, Janis Sheara Surtees from 1978-1982. Please correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:587:100:1917:BCFD:5820:ED43:D43B (talk) 15:23, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I presume you mean John Surtees. All information in Wikipedia requires documentation through reliable sources as defined in Wikipedia. Do you have any such sources for this information? I've made a quick search and cannot find any (and, indeed, it would seem to contradict other sources which says that his first marriage lasted until 1979). Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 16:47, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If they mean this John Surtees then it's either cobblers or the best kept secret in racing. Looking around, Janis Sheara Surtees seems to be an investment broker in the USA so any link to the racing driver seems tenuous. Not mentioned in any obituary, including those written by very eminent historians and published in reputable national newspapers. Pyrope 18:14, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
