Intros for technical articles

[edit]
  1. No esoteric vernacular. Use words that laypersons understand.
  2. Convey the article's topic in broad concepts that are easy to understand. KISS.
  3. After reading the intro, it should be obvious why the topic is important and what its real world value is.
  4. The intro must not choke the reader with excessive links, lingo, language, sentence length or unit conversions. Intros that trip the reader fail.
  5. Write the intro for someone who doesn't know anything about the topic. Intros written for experts are useless, since they are only understood by those who don't need them.

Editors to support for admin

[edit]

List of editors who I've bumped into and, at first glance, I think should be admins. If you see your name here, I hope this encourages you to think about running. Just adding these as I go along, I'm bad with remembering names, don't feel bad if I didn't remember you ...

Notes

[edit]
  • (example) Failure to engage in relevant debate and reply to these question: [1], [2], [3], Full section.
  • Six weeks later blocked editor on a similar dispute. No note on talk page, no offer to unblock if editor offers to modify behavior. Smacks of punitive nature in light of blocking admin's previous snub. [4]
  • Troubling symptom - in some cases the admins failed to engage editor in discussion about the content dispute, choosing to ignore his good faith efforts to discuss the issues and focusing on his (marginally) uncivil behavior instead. Some of these admins seem to be on the opposite side of the content debate from the editor, thereby giving the appearance that they fell back on punitive admin actions after failing to successfully defend their position on the content dispute, all the while making the editor more outraged.
  • Sequence of escalating disputes lately. The same packs of admins ganging up on user, further fueling the conflict and resulting in more outbursts by user. Self-feeding cycle. Shift from content dispute to editor behavior dispute to admin conduct dispute. Admins should have the good sense to defuse these situations, not exacerbate them.

Thoughts

[edit]
  • Q. What drives a troll blind with rage?
A. Ignore him.
  • Q. What's worse than blindly following policy or process?
A. Blatently ignoring it with no good rationale.
