"Reed's work did not translate into sales, leading him deeper into drug addiction and alcoholism." This is absolute rubbish. There is *nothing* noteworthy about an addict spiraling down into severe disability, death, and/or the need for institutional care. Blaming his lack of commercial success FOR his addictions has the cart before the horse.
