I'm a software engineer by trade. I currently work at Mozilla on the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine, but I try to dabble in lots of other areas as well to be "dangerous".  :-) I have a hobbyist interest in economics, politics, and law. I've been to (as of March 2018) fourteen SCOTUS oral arguments across five days, notably including:

  • National Labor Relations Board v. Noel Canning: a case interpreting the Appointments Clause for the first time;
  • McCullen v. Coakley: a case concerning so-called "buffer zones" around the entrances to abortion clinics, in which assembly, speech, etc. are restricted;
  • Walker v. Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans: a case concerning whether the designs on custom state license plates constitute government speech, so that a state that generally sells custom designs may refuse to sell a particular design;
  • Matal v. Tam: a case concerning whether a trademark registration can be denied on the basis of the mark being "disparaging"; and
  • Ziglar v. Abbasi: a case concerning whether, in the aftermath of September 11, various detainees in New York prisons are permitted to sue various government officials for allegations of mistreatment.

I am a broadly libertarian (generally small-L) Christian.
