Info Box suggestion - adding urban (built-up) area and density

[edit]

The GCCSA area and density information, being based on census/statistical parameters can be seen to provide a limited understanding of the city's true form. Urban (built-up) data for the city area (and subsequently) density provide a more nuanced and accurate reflection of the true urban scale of the city. This information is readily available in ABS/Census data, reflecting the 'urban centre' or 'Significant Urban Area', which a category used on Wikipedia already to rank Australian cities.

This information is summarised here: http://www.demographia.com/db-worldua.pdf based on ABS data. For Sydney specifically, this information shows an urban area of 2,194 sqkm and a population density of 2,204 per sqkm. Data is available for all major Australian cities, so could be included for all.

National data consultancy.id, which analyses census data for local and state governments have more on this here: https://blog.id.com.au/2023/population/population-trends/has-melbourne-overtaken-sydney-to-become-australias-largest-city

It would be useful to include this information in the info box if possible, otherwise in the body of the article. AussieInfo (talk) 02:45, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
